On Thursday-3-April the Bogota Borough Council held their Work Session meeting for the month. The first order of business was to introduce the 2025 Borough Budget. There is a tax increase of about 8 % planned for the budget. This will be presented for Public Comment at the meeting on Thursday May 15.
Then there was a presentation of awards and commendations by the Bogota Police Department. Bogota Police Chief Mr. Daniel Maye announced a series of certificates to the officers of the Department for the following acts of service. These ranged from assisting other departments in the detaining of suspects. Rescuing individuals from traffic accidents or other life-threatening situations. Other awards were for leading in Community Service, along with Educational Achievement and for Military service. Also honoured were a number of Civilian awards.
When the meeting was reopened the Council had a discussion on forming a committee to perform an Internal Audit of Borough properties and departments. This is to see what properties, equipment and departments can be combined, sold, or donated to reduce the cost to the Borough. One ordinance was introduced about contracting a private company to handle payments and collections for the Police Department. This will be opened to the public at the meeting on Thursday May 15.
One ordinance about lead paint inspection was passed by unanimous vote. Then the Council voted on the resolutions in the Consent Agenda, which was passed, mostly by unanimous vote. Exceptions occurred when a Council Member recued themselves to avoid a conflict of interest.
Items of note were to approve the hiring of 2025 Summer Camp counselors. Also, four resolutions were to approve the construction of the Community Center in Olson Part. This included having work to begin no later than 21- April-2025. This project is scheduled to be finished no later than April 2026.
Also approved was to install the pinwheel garden for Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. They will be installed in front of Borough Hall and around the clock in the Veterans Memorial Park. Another approval was to grant outdoor dining for a local restaurant.
The next regular Council meeting will be held on Thursday-17-April starting at 7:30p. It is scheduled to be held in the Council Chambers located on the second floor of 375 Larch Ave Bogota, NJ. For more information please visit: https://www.bogotaonline.org/
