27-March-2025
On Tuseday-25-March, Homes for Vets presented a Luncheon Workshop on Home ownership and financial planning for Senior Citizens. This took place in the Bogota VFW Post # 5561 Headquarters. This was hosted by Ms. Rebecca Miller Pringle, USA ret. She opened the afternoon by welcoming all those in attendance. Then Mr. Frank Choloski, USCG ret. led the audience to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
Ms. Miller then shared some Spring-cleaning advice. She said that everyone should start by focusing on one room at a time. And having someone to help moving items around along with helping to select items that can be donated. Next Ms. Miller gave some advice about home repairs and how to select a trusted company. One thing to look for is a Contractor, or Handyman that will take payment by check, this ensures that the homeowner has proof of payment. Another tip she gave was to ask friends or neighbors for recommendations of people with which they have worked with. This led into the next presenter for the event.
Mr. Eric Mason from Rate.com, talked about how moving assets to a safer investment could be beneficial, with one idea of investing in a reverse mortgage. After he was finished Ms. Maria Topczij, USAF, ret. stepped up and draw the winners for some Door Prizes. Ms. Topczij then introduced Mr. Jeff Greenberg who performed his comedy set. This featured stories about marrying as a more experience Adult, along with Tributes of Mr. Roddey Dangerfield and Mr. Henny Youngman.
