Fire Department Report

 Summary of the Report from the Bogota Fire Prevention Bureau, for the incident on Sunday-9-February at 15 Palisade Ave. Bogota, NJ. At 2:08p a smoke condition was reported to the Police. First to respond was Bogota Ladder Co. #1 within three minutes. Next Bogota Engine Co. #1 also arrived at the scene. The Firefighters reported smoke coming out of the eves of the building. At 2:15p a second alarm  was called, as Firefighters assisted residents from the building. In continuing their search, heavy fire was reported  from the cockloft space between the top floor and the roof level. Bogota Engine Co.#3 arrived to aid in containing the scene. Also called, to support the Bogota Volunteer Fire Department was a Fast Assist and Search Team from Ridgefield Park,  a Ladder Truck from Hackensack and Engines from Teaneck and Englewood, along with a Ladder truck from Leonia.
Residents of the building were taken to the Bogota Senior Centre at 375 Larch Ave.  Some residents were interviewed there and mention the smell of smoke  and seeing smoke from floors and bathroom.
Approximately 3:06p  there was a partial collapse of the roof on the southern side of the structure. At 5:06 the fire was called under control, but members remained on scene to begin a Fire Watch.
 Over the following two days the physical investigation took place. The report determined the origin of the fire was in a wall of one of the apartment‘s bathroom and bedroom. A single ignition source was identified as an electric supply to a switch or outlet. The cause of the fire was ruled as: Accidental/Electrical.
A temporary covering over the collapsed section of the building has been in installed. As of this report no decision on the repair or demolition of the structure has been made. Any determination will be made after the Engineering Report is made to the Borough’s Building Department.
Other Fire Departments providing mutual assist were from: Fr. Lee, Little Ferry, South Hackensack, River Edge, Hasbrouck Heights, and Holy Name Hospital. No injuries of resident or Fire Fighters were reported.
