Veteran's Day

On Monday-11-November the Bogota VFW Ralph Hall post #5561 held their Veteran’s Day program.  This was a held in the lower hall and was a dinner to thank the retired and active-duty members of the Armed Forces. 
The program began with the Bogota Police Department parading the colours into the Hall. This was followed by the playing of the National Anthem by the Bogota High School Jazz Band. Next Pastor Jodi Wo from Bogart Church gave the opening payer to thank the Veterans who have served, and to protect the current active duty personal. 
 Post Commander Alexander Hernandez asking those veterans in the audience to stand and be recognized. They said their name and which branch of the Armed Forces they were a part of.
 Commander Hernandez saluted each Veteran for their service.  Seven services including the Marines, Amry, Navy, Airforce, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines were represented.
 Next Bogota Mayor Ms. Daniele Fede presented the 2024 Citizen of the Year award to Mr. Kenneth O'Donnell.  This is for with work as a Volunteer Fire Fighter, helping within the Borough when needed, and his special work during the Holiday Season. Mayor Fede also unveiled the "Hometown Hero's" banner of Bogota Veterans. This will be added to the Street Lights withing the Borough over the next few weeks. 
The Jazz band played music from their 2024 Marching Season Program over dinner.  Along with Ms. Janet Wojcik singing as the evening progressed. The final event of the evening was to announce the winners of the Patriot's Pen contest. This year's theme was "My Voice in America’s Democracy" The third-place winner was Angela Dai, second place was Giza Miller Pringle, and in first place was Alexander Ferreira Lopez.
