With the unseasonable mild weather construction on the new Bogota Sports Complex has progressed at a steady pace. Since the groundbreaking on Friday-4-October the shape of the fields has started to be seen. The major change has been the creation of one unified area from the W. Main St side of Olsen Park to the Bogota Swim Club parking lot. This is a joint venture by the Bogota Board of Education and the Bogota Borough Council to create a large open space that will be accessible for all residents for all seasons.
The work started with the removable of the old playing surfaces. Then next step was to raise the grade about five feet to lift the area out of the flood plain. At the same time the open creek between to the areas was covered over to prevent tide, and storm surges from flooding the field while allowing water to continue to flow into the Hackensack Rivier. Landscaping began with the Olsen Park section to create Varsity fields for the Lady Bucs Softball and Bogota Baseball teams. As of this week the infields have be added. Along with new caged backstop, and Foul poles, the stands from both the old fields have been reused. Bullpens have been added for both home and visiting teams. Lighting stanchions are being erected to allow for night games. Sod has been laid where possible and watered. With the new grade has allowed a level transition from infield to outfield.
In the Feigel Field section existing flagpole from Riverview Field location, has been moved to the west side of the park near W. Main St. Next to that are the uprights for the score board has been installed. The football stands have also been reused, and moved to their new location which will face to the South-West overlooking the west side of Olsen Park. More lighting structures are also being installed, which will allow for regulation cover for night games. All lighting is designed to be focused on the playing field to limit the amount of spill over to residential properties. And on non-game days the lighting must turned off after 11:00p.
The foundation of the varsity track has started to be formed. A safety cage for the field event has been added between the Outfield of the two Varsity Ball fields.
The walking path around the entire complex is being created. This will also be open to the Public during daylight hours. Around a dozen new trees have already been planted as the start of the replacement process for the tree that needed to be removed.
The timeline from the Architectual firm estimates that the Olsen Park ball field should be functional by mid, to late Spring. This will subject to weather conditions, and the ability of the sob to obtain a strong root growth. The Fiegel Field section has a dedication date scheduled for approximately Memorial Day Weekend. All time frames are based on weather condition and other construction details.
