Football Bucs preseason

21-August-2024
The Bogota Football Bucs are midway in the preseason training. This year the practices have moved to the Vin Scully Field in Olsen Park. This is to allow for the preparation work on the Fiegel Field improvements.
The players began their training day watching video of their combined practice with Elmwood Park  on Monday. Then they walked to the park so they could start their workout. A group of 32 players gathered in front of  seventh-year Head Coach Brian Appleton. After graduating 5 Seniors last year Coach Appleton now has a larger number of Senior players to be the leaders for this year’s team.
After a series of calisthenic workouts, the players move to smaller groups to focus on their duties. This was a day that worked on defense. The drills included on how to  break through the opponent’s offensive line and to tackle a moving runner. Other aspects worked on was Linebacker drills to react to different formations from the other team’s offence. The Corners and Safeties  practice watching the Quarterback  so they could move into position to defend a pass.
The next session saw the Bogota Offense lining up against the Bogota Defense. Coach Appleton would show some of the plays for this year’s team. While Defense Coaches set the players on where they should be and what signals will be given that will determine the alignment on the field.
There was also working on punt formations and techniques.
Bogota has returned to the Patriot Division after four seasons in the developmental Union Division, they are again eligible for the NJSIAA sectional playoffs. The other teams in the division are Weehawken, Park Ridge, Wallington, Wood-Ridge, and St. Mary’s.
With the redevelopment of Feigel Field, Bogota will play their home games at the Vince Lombardi Field in Palisades Park. The Bucs will open their season on Thursday-29-August as the home team against Manchester with a 7:00p kick-off.
