Board of Education

 30-August-2024
On Tuesday-27-August, the Bogota Board of Education held their first meeting for the 2024-25 school year.
After Citizens Comments, Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy gave his report for the start of the upcoming school year. The first point he made was that the District is almost fully staffed with a number of interviews still taking place. This was followed with updates on bathroom projects in both Bixby School and the High School. The new, and the refurbishing, bathrooms in Bixby is almost complete with only minor details needing to be addressed. The High School bathrooms will undergo a final inspection and will be useable at the start of the school year. All school buildings have had, or continuing to have, their deep cleaning finished before Tuesday- 3 September.
Work on the Olsen Park ball fields has started with all permits being approved for the entire sports complex project. The CTE building, across Palisade Ave. from the High School, has also had all permits approved. This allows work to begin on that structure with a target date of September 2025 for occupancy.
The next item was to present the scores for the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) test. This is given to 11th grade Students to learn if there is a need to assist them in order to meet grade standards so they can graduate in their Senior year. The test was for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. The Juniors scored higher than the State average in Math, and equal in ELA.
After Superintendent Kennedy was finished, Trustee President Mr. Frank Miranda asked for a moment of silence to remember long time Bogota resident Mr. Vincent Galante, Jr. who passed away the week before.
Then the Trustees voted on the Consent Agenda, all resolutions were passed by unanimous vote.
Items of note were the passing of the 2024-25 District Calendar. This will have 182 total class days starting on Thursday-5- September to Friday-20-June 2025, both will be single session. There 2 emergency school closing days included in the calendar. Winter vacation will start with a single session on Friday-20-December with classes resuming on Thursday-2-January 2025. Spring Recess will be from Monday-14-April 2025, with classes starting on Tuesday-22-April 2025.
Also approved was:
- A Drama Club and Photography Club for the Middle School.
-The appointment of Emily Fermin as an Elementary School Teacher.
-The appointment of Kelly Weckstein as a Graphic Arts Teacher.
-The appointment of Devin Rodgers as Assistant Football Coach.
