On Tuesday-30-April, the Bogota Board of Education held their Regular meeting for the month. During his reports Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy presented the budget for the 2024-25 school year. One of the main highlights of the presentation was when Superintendent Kennedy announced that all taxpayers who own a home in Bogota will have a $0.00 increase for the 2024-25 school year. This is due to the District investing the funds approved in the 2023 referendum with the New Jersey Asset & Rebate Management Program. Under the original tax impact, the approval of the bond for the Sports Complex would have an average cost of $184.88 for each Bogota Homeowner. For next year it will be a 0% increase, which is similar to the bond for Capital and Educational Renovations.
Before this, Superintendent Kennedy
reviewed the major goals for the upcoming school year. These includes:
-To strengthen the
focus for Reading Proficiency, Mastering the conceptual understanding of Math.
And to improve early Student wellness and classroom discipline.
- The upgrading of Internet service to all district building and the strengthening of Cybersecurity
- The refurbishing of the Main Hallway in Steen School, the hot water heater in Bixby School, adding security vestibules in all building, and the continuing the replacing of Smartboards as needed.
Future goals are to continuing to improve Math and English Language Arts, providing more tutoring assistance, to lower the absentee and drop-out rate, and to expand summer instruction and after-school programs. Along with the starting of the projects approved in the 2023 referendum.
Bids for the CTE Building, bathroom upgrades for Bixby School and the High School have been awarded. The bids for the sports complex have been submitted. Once all designs have been approved then a time schedule will be announced.
A factor on the 2024-25 budget was the awarding of over $900,000.00 in grant funds to the district. These grants have allowed the creation of a program for 18-21 years old. Also, school based mental health screening, hydroponic gardens which is supplying fruits and vegetable for the Student lunches.
