Arc Walk 2024

 24-May-2024

On Sunday-19-May the ARC of Bergen and Passaic Counties held their walk-a-thon in Olsen Park in Bogota NJ.  This was the first walk-a-thon since 2019. The ARC's goal is to assist those suffering Mental or Physical handicap, and their Families, maintain a positive quality of life. Before the walk began Ms. Kathy Walsh welcome everyone in attendance, both walkers, and their supports. Bogota Mayor Ms. Danile Fede thanked the Arc for again coming to Bogota to enjoy the park and to have an enjoyable experience in the sun. Some of the groups attending in support of the ARC were the Masons from District 2, 3, & 4 of New Jersey who served food to the walkers.  The Masons were presented with custom made aprons in recognition of their work and aid of the past years. A stilted Uncle Sam mingled, and talked, with the attendees. Games could be played on the lawn, with face painting and craft tables set-up. The Bogota Auxiliary Police Dept volunteered their time to assist the participants in crossing W. Main St.
Before the walk Mr. Matt Serednicky came up and once again sang God Bless America.  Then walk began with Grand Marshal Ms. Amy Skok cut the ribbon to start the procession. She was followed by the Bogota High School Marching Buccaneer Band leading the walking on the first of their three laps, or 4.5 miles, around the park. The route covered a one and a half miles around the park. It started at the bandstand crossed over the Environmental Walkway, past the 1st Lt William Ryan Memorial and around Lady Bucs Softball field.  Then the path crossed W. Main St to loop around the Little League fields, then back across W. Main St. passing the Picnic Grove returning to the start line. One of the larger groups in attendance was Anne’s Army. This was in memory of Ms. Anne Gallucci who served Director of Vocational Services at the Hoehne Vocational Center.  Staff and clients of The Arc’s Hoehne Vocational Center in Hackensack, and Family members wore these shirts for Ms. Gallucci who passed away unexpectedly in January of 2024.
After the walkers finished their journey, they were treated to a Hot Dog lunch, and music from Uphill Slide. It was a morning of music and games for the participants.
