On Wednesday-14-February the Bogota Basketball Bucs played their
Senior game on the Jay Mahoney Court in Speary Gym. They would host the Hawthorne Christian Academy Defenders. Before the game
Bogota Head Coach Donald Osbourne recognized the Seniors for both teams. First
for the Defenders Mr. Joel Walker and Mr. Andrew Hart were introduced. Then Bogota’s
Mr. Chris Inman, Mr. Joseph Perpepaj, Mr. RJ Asencio, and Mr. Michael Olivio step
out to center court to present their families with flowers. Then the Players
and their Parents received gifts to commemorate their time as part of the
Bogota Varsity Basketball program.
The game started with Bogota taking a 4-0 lead. They would build the advantage to six points. Hawthorne Christian Academy would come back and moved ahead by a score of 13-12. The teams would trade leads until, the Bucs scored as time was running down to post a 20-16 lead after the first eight minutes. In the second quarter the teams again would trade leads. The Defenders would build their advantage to 29-25. After several ties, Bogota took a 35-33 margin into the locker room.
After the re-start the game was again tied by the score of 35-35. Then the Bucs started to control most of the play. The defense limited Hawthorne Christian Academy scoring, while their offense pushed the lead to double digits. By three-quarter time the home team led by the score of 57-41. The game would end with a 67-59 Bogota win.
The Bucs’ RJ Asencio had a team high with 21 Points, including 1 Three Point Basket. Michael Olivio also recorded 1 Three Point Basket for Bogota. Hawthorne Christian Academy’s Joel Walker posted a game high with 28 Points. His teammate Tim Said led all scorers with 3 Three Point Baskets.
Bogota’s record is now 10-14. They will next play in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Group I North I tournament. They will be the #16 seed and travel to #1 Paterson Charter School on Thursday-22-February. A time has not been announced.
