Bogota Basketball

  On Thursday-14-December the Bogota Varsity Basketball teams opened their 2023-24 season. Some rule changes have been implemented. One is the home teams will now wear their dark coloured uniforms during the game. Another is team fouls will be counted during each quarter.  At the start of the next quarter the foul counter will be reset to Zero. After a team has committed 5 fouls the opposing team will have bonus free throws. All bonus free-throws will be 2 chances. This will eliminate the 1 and 1 free throws.

  The Men's team traveled to Wallington to play the Panthers. The Bucs started the game by producing a double-digit lead, 18-8, by the end of the first quarter. At halftime Bogota push the advantage to 40 to 23. Bogota would come home with a 67-41 victory.  The Bucs were led by RJ Asencio with 17 Points and 11 Rebounds. Brandon Nicolas scored 1 Three Point Basket, and Lucus Cruz recorded 3 Blocks. Bogota now has a record of 1-0. They next play on Saturday-16-December for their home opener against Garfield. This will take place on the Jay Mahoney Court in Speary Gym with a 3:00p tip-off. 

  Lady Bucs Basketball team opened their 2023-24 season.  Due to the rule change They would their dark uniforms   with a Bogota Purple base with white stripes. The lettering and numbers are trimmed with Bucs Gold. They hosted the Wood-Ridge Lady Blue Devils on the Jay Mahoney Court in Speary Gym.  Bogota would open the scoring, only to have Wood-Ridge answer that with their own two-points.   The game would again be tied at 3 points apiece midway through the first quarter.  At the end of the first eight minutes saw the Vistors who have an 8-4 lead. By the end of the half the Lady Devils would take a 20-15 advantage into the locker room.  After the restart Bogota would go on a nine-point run to pull ahead with a 24-20 lead. Wood-Ridge then used their own 9-point run to retake the lead. The Lady Blue Devils would win the game by score of 42-38. The Lady Bucs Emma Fowler had a game high with 11 Points.  Fiona Helly and Alison Gardella each had 9 Points for Wood-Ridge.  Ms. Fowler and Fabiola Rodriguez each scored 1 Three Point Basket.  Makayla Douglas recorded 2 Blocks. The Lady Bucs record is now 0-1. They next play on Friday-15-December at Garfield, this has a 4:00p start.
