15-August-2023
On Monday-14-August the Bogota Football Bucs started their training camp for the 2023 season. A group of 32 players gathered on Feigel Field under six-year Head Coach Brain Appleton. After graduating 5 Seniors last year Coach Appleton has the luxury of filling those starters with a multitude of options. This Bogota has the largest roster since moving to the Union Division. Coach Appleton ran the practices with two sets of offensive groups. This includes First and Second team Linemen, a half -a-dozen players on the receiving corp. Along with a number of options for the Running Back and Quarterback spots.
After a series of calisthenics workouts, the players move to smaller groups to focus on their duties. Blockers learned the blocking techniques and assignments for each play. Receivers ran numerous routes covering all areas of the field. The Running Backs ran, stepped, jumped twisted and moved around padding to gain yards. At the end of the path a blocking pad greeted them trying to cause a fumble. To answer this challenge, footballs need to be gripped tighter and heads down to move through the obstacle. The Running backs who were not at this station ran plays with the Quarterbacks repeating play after play from scrimmage.
Coach Appleton shifted from reminding players what their duties were on each play, to cheering them on, to openly question if they had seen a playbook. All of this under umbrella of letting them know the new seasons starts in days, and not weeks. And get practice should be harder, faster, and stronger than the day before if they want to play winning football.
Bogota opens their season on Friday-1-September when the play Capital Prep of Harlem. This will take place at the Macombs Dam Park in the Bronx, kick-off is scheduled for 2:00p
Their home opener will be on Saturday-16-September against Manchester at Feigel Field at 1:00p.
