31-May-2023
On Monday-31-May the Bogota Volunteer Fire Department, and the Bogota Volunteer Rescue Squad, held their annual inspection for the Mayor and members of Borough Council. This was held on Larch Ave in front of Borough Hall before the Remembrance Ceremony. The Department’s rolling stock lined up with each Company member standing next to their vehicle in their dress uniforms. Fire Chief William Hordern escorted the elected officials to view each Company. The Companies are Hook and Ladder #1, Engine #1, Hose #2, and Engine #3.
The Mayor and Council members met and thanked each Company members for their service to the Borough. Then they were given a tour of each vehicle, by the Company Captain. They learned what is the role of each vehicle in various emergencies situations. They also were shown the equipment on each vehicle being told what it is and how it is used. The elected officials asked the some which were quickly answered. Council Members were told that much of the equipment on the current rolling stock will be able to be used on the newer vehicles that will be delivered in the near future. They were also told that the newer equipment is becoming lighter and easier to use. In Chief Horden's report he said that the Dept. has accepted 3 new members in their Junior Firefighter program, and 2 new full members since the last inspection in 2022. Chief Horden continued in report that since the new office space was open the Dept. has been able to update, or create, their software so that the day-to-day function of the Dept. has become easier and more efficient to use. He added this was in part of purchases from the Borough, and some non-taxpayer funding sources. Chief Horden stressed that some of the improvements were accomplished by members of the Dept. who used their own time and skills to develop or create new program that are now used.
Then the Mayor and Council move to inspect the equipment used by the Volunteer Rescue Squad. This included the Heavy Rescue Vehicle, along with the Marine Rescue equipment.
