On Monday-6-June the Elementary Schools in Bogota began their Week of the Arts events. Starting in 32 years ago it is a celebration of some of the many artistic disciplines available, and how art in everyday life can help students learn. The week was opened, by Bogota Mayor Mr. Christopher Kelemen. First at Bixby School, then later at Steen School, Mayor Kelemen read a proclamation name the week from 6-to 10 as Week of the Arts in the Borough of Bogota. Also addressing the Students was School Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy. Superintendent Kennedy came into the Audience of grade schools to make the point that how much better this year has been because the Students and Teachers and be together again in person. He continued in saying that he was glad that the schools can again take this week to highlight all the arts and how they can improve the school experience.
This year's theme is " Art Calms the Chaos" to illustrate this, members of the Fifth Grade class performed a short story about the positive effects of taking the time for creativity. It showed that sometimes life and just be over-whelming at times. Then there was the introduction of being creative by either drawing, sculpting or just by listening to music to help a person to relax and make life better for themselves.
Some of the programs that will be offered at both schools will be in class presentations of visual art, reading, & poetry, art history, and artistic game. There will also be a number of assemblies featuring performances by Student Musicians and guest Artist.
