Bogota Board of Education

  On Tuesday-17-May the Bogota Board of Education held their second meeting for the Month. In his report Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy made several announcements.  The first was to address the rise in positive cases of covid. His recommendation in response, after meeting with local Board of health, was to asked Students and all Visitors to the school buildings and other event to continue to wear masks. As of this time wearing of masks will not be made mandatory. Superintendent Kennedy then announced was that the next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday 14-June and take place in Speary Gym. This will allow the Board to honour the those Teachers who will retire at the end of the year. They will also announce the Teachers of the year for each of the Districts schools.  Along with recognizing the Student /Athletes whose team has won Divisional Championships. Another part of this meeting will be to present the District’s goals for the next five years to improve the education of the Student in Bogota. This will start at 7:00p and is open to the Public.

  Superintendent Kennedy final announcement was to award Certificate of Academic  Achievements  to 15 Student who have been attending an Adult English as a Second Language courses. They have been attending these classes since October. They were presented with their Certificate  by Superintendent Kennedy, and School Board President Mr. Frank Miranda.

     Then the Trustee moved to vote on agenda items. All items were passed by an unanimous  vote. Items of note were: to approve the 2022-23 District Calendar.  The 2022-23 school year will have 183 instruction days scheduled. The State of New Jersey requires 180 days of classes.  The first day of classes will be on Tuesday-6-September.  The last day is scheduled for Thursday-22-June-2023.  There are a number of emergency closures day built into this calendar.  The Winter break will run from Monday-26-December to Monday-2-January-2023. Spring break will run from Friday-7-April to Friday-14-April-2023. Four new Holidays have been added, Rosh Hashanah on Monday-26-September, Yom Kipper on Wednesday-5-October, Eid al Fitr on Friday-21-April-2023, and Juneteenth  on Monday-19-June-2023. The Columbus Day Holiday has been removed.

  The next Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday-14-June and is scheduled to start at 7:00p. It will be a hybrid meeting with in-person attendance and available online. The in person meeting will be held in the Speary Gym located at 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ The meeting is open to the Public.
