On Thursday-4-November The #1 seeded Lady Bucs played the #4 seed Emerson Lady Cavaliers in the Semifinal round of the 2021 New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Group I, Section I playoff tournament. This was played at Speary Gym in Bogota.
Emerson would serve first with Bogota scoring the first points of the match. The Lady Cavaliers would tie the score and then take the lead. Bogota then tie the set again and take their own lead. The score was tied again at 3-3 followed by a 4-4 tie. This was the the first part of what saw an opening set featuring 12 ties and five lead changes. Emerson did open a three point lead with the serving of Alexandra Belevan. The Lady Bucs were able to re-tie the set with service points from Brianna Mejia at 8 a piece.
Throughout this first set no lead would be more than 2 points for either team. With Celine Mallouhi and Skyler Shook have small runs for the The Lady Cavaliers. Bogota would match these scores and again tying the score.
The Lady Cavaliers would be the first team to reach the 20 point mark and lead by two, 21-19. Gyanna Hernandez allow Bogota to have take the lead one more time in this set, only to have Emerson tie the score twice more. The Lady Bucs Mia Pimentel then gave Bogota the two points need to capture the first set by a score of 25-23, and a 1-0 match score.
Bogota opening the second set and scored first. and quickly this set saw ties of 2-2- and 3-3. Alexandra Belevan gave the Lady Cavaliers their largest lead, at the time with a service run of four points. Emerson then double their advantage with Ryan Grompone serving five points. The Lady Bucs could get no closer than one point of the visitors. Ms. Grompone then returning to serving and push Emerson to a 25-22 second set win and tieing the contest at 1 set a piece.
This was the third time, in their three matches this season, Bogota and Emerson needed three sets to find a winner.
One of the biggest plays of this final set was when Bogota would win the coin toss and have the chance to serve first. The Lady Bucs' Gyanna Hernandez use this opportunity give Bogota a fast start with a 4-0 lead. Mia Pimentel then added more scoring and extended the lead to 6 points. Alexandra Belevan kept Emerson close with a three point run. Bogota's Seniah Burrell had a four point run of her own to re- establish the home teams advantage. Brianna Mejia served Bogota to within one point of the win, the Lady Cavaliers would win the next side out. During this volley Lady Bucs' Gyanna Hernandez found enough space for a final spike to give Bogota a 25-19 win and a 2-1 match victory. Bogota's record is now 24-2.
Ashanna Caviness had 16 Kills for Bogota. Alexandra Belevan and Mia Bonner had 6 Kills for the Lady Cavaliers. Lady Bucs' Mia Pimentel had a match high with 26 assists, while Natalie Graham scored 12 Assists for Emerson. Alexandra Belevan a match highs with 4 Blocks, 15 Service Points including 3 Aces, She also had a team high with 15 Digs. Ashanna Caviness had a match high with 18 Digs. Ms. Caviness combined with Carolina Villada, Mia Pimentel, and Diana Alfau all had three Block a pice for Bogota. Gyanna Hernandez had a team high with 11 Service Points and 1 Ace.
The #1 seeded Lady Bucs next play #3 seed Glen Rock in the Final round of the 2021 New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Group I, Section I playoff tournament. This will take play on Tuesday-9-November in Bogota at Speary Gym. The first serve is scheduled for 6:00p
