This week the Bogota Lady Bucs Volleyball squad opened their pre-season training camp for the start of the defence of their North 1 Group 1 sectional title. Due to the current Heath situation there was no State Championship for Women’s Volleyball last season.
The Lady Bucs will begin this camp in Steen School on the Patty Cicone Court in Moore Gym. Under the directions of Coaches Ms. Katherine Sura, and Ms Christina Minieri the players were asked their thoughts after the first day of camp and how they felt both mentally and physically. The Coaches also reminded the players of the importance both on, and off, court training for the success of the team.
The team would go through a number of warm-up exercises to get ready for the games drill to follow. As the drills continued players were shown the proper hand potions to move the ball to the desired targets. Along with using the whole body to create the force and speed needed to achieve scoring plays. Next the team was split into two groups to learn defensive and offensive positioning. Coaches wanted to repeat these drills often so they will become instigative of where to go for different situation. The important focus was the speed and accuracy of player movement, not the force of ball delivery. As the drills went on players would rotate on and off the court to keep fresh legs in play. This also kept the players at the top level of attention as the action on the court continued.
As the drills picked up speed the Coaches also reminded the players that every member in uniform need to call out what position the defense should be in. Another was that who every was going to play the ball needed to call out their intentions. This was so the other players could react accordingly.
By the time the first break was called the speed repetitions was increase and well as the force that could be used strike the ball to the opposite end of the court. When the action increased the intensity of the players rose to meet the challenge. The effort to reach the ball now involved diving for loose balls, faster moving into position, and loud communication on the court.
When drill were pause for a break the Coaches complimented the team on their work to this point. Then reminded that is only the first step in the process to keep Bogota Volleyball at its high level of success.
The Lady Bucs will have a scrimmage on Tuesday-24-August at River Dell. First serve is scheduled for 11:00a. They will open the 2021 season on Thursday-9-September. This will be against Immaculate Heart Academy and be play at home in Speary Gym. The first serve is scheduled for 4:30p.
