Bogota Board of Education

  The Bogota Board of Education held their first meeting for the Month of June.  This was held in Speary gym, and was lived streamed on zoom.

   In his report Superintendent  Mr. Damien Kennedy had a few safety related updates. The first was to announce that the State of New Jersey had lifted the mask requirements for all outdoor activities and indoor events if safe distancing is followed. Superintendent Kennedy

continued in saying at Students and Teachers will be allow to remove their masks, while in class, under extreme high temperatures. Also the graduation ceremonies for the Kindergarten, Sixth grade and Senior Class of 2021 will  have no distance, or attendance restrictions.  Guide-lines about wearing of mask will be announced at a later date. 

   Other announcement was that there will be a combined Academic and Sports award for the Senior class on Wednesday-9- June. This will take place in Speary Gym and is scheduled to start at 7:00p.  The Board of Education will recognized the Faculty and Staff that have retired, for 2021 and 2020, at the next Board of Education meeting.  

 Superintendent Kennedy finish by presenting  7 Bogota Seniors plaques acknowledging their achievement of  graduating High School, and earning an Associates Degree from Bergen Community College this year. They are: Taylor Cabana, Carmen Cruz, Vanessa DeLeon,  Emely Recio, Leonardo Rojas, Shebaz Uddin and Shenaz Uddin. 

   The trustees then considered the consent agenda. When there were no question about any of the resolution it was moved to formally voted on at the next Board meeting. 

   Next the trustees heard from three insurance companies applying for the position Worker Compensation Insurance broker.  After the interview process the Board went into executive session. When the meeting was reconvened there was a vote on the appointment recommended by the District's Business Agent. This rejected by a 5-4. After a lengthy  discussion a second firm was voted on for the position.  This firm was confirmed by a 5-4 vote.   

  The next Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday-15-June and is scheduled to start at 7:00p. This will be both an in-person and a virtual meeting. This will be held in Speary Gym and on zoom. All are open to the public. Log-in information will follow.
