Bogota Basketball

    On Monday-1-March the Varsity Teams of Bogota played those from Leonia. The Lady Bucs had an away game against the Lady Loins  Bogota would control the first quater and have a 23-3 lead by the end of the eight minutes. The Lady Bucs would go on to win the game by the score of 57-25. Bogota's record is now 7-3. Kylie Cabana had a game high with 28 Points including 1 Three Point Basket. Nakayia Field also had a three Point  Basket as part of her 20 Point game.  Leonia was lead  by Janai Hawley with 9 Points
  The Lady Bucs next play on Thursday-4-March at Ridgefield Park. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00p. Due to the current health situation only Family members of the Home School will be allowed to attend in person. For live stream coverage can be found at: Ridgefield Park Athletics
  The Men’s Basketball Bucs hosted Leonia on the Jay Mahoney Court in Speary Gym. This was the Senior game for Bogota, and the final home game of the 2021 season. Before the game all the Senior players were announced. First, for the Lions, Lorenzo Dubon and Jeremiah Donmartin  were asked to step forward to be recognized.  Then the six Bogota Seniors Mo Ali, Ron Leak, William Wieskus, Dalone Jackson, Taj Collins, and Ashanti Caviness all were honoured at centre court. 
    When the game started Leonia scored 10 of the first dozen points of the game. Six of these came from Alex Coello from beyond the arc. The Lions defense kept Bogota off balance and restricted their scoring opportunities. The Bucs were able to add Points after Dalone Jackson had a Three Point basket of his own. Bogota scored the next 6 Point to only trail by 2 at the end of the first quarter. To start the next eight minutes Bogota would tie the game at 10. This quarter would have at least  tie scores or lead changes.  The Bucs eventually pulled ahead for good converting 8 out of 11 free throw attempts  to go into halftime ahead by the score of 24-21. 
   After  the restart Bogota, while containing to maintain their advantage, slowly shifted their focus on a different goal. Senior Ashanti Caviness entered the game with 989 career Points. By the three quarter time mark Bogota had a 42-29 lead. Just 47 seconds into the final quarter Mr. Caviness found an open spot behind the three point line.  This also happened to be in front of the Bogota bench and his Coach.  As the ball fell through the net Ashanti calmly started to go back on defense. With an officials time out the his Bucs teammates were able to congratulate him on becoming the 21st Men’s player in the history of Bogota High School to reach the 1,000th Point mark.  Ashanti is the 16th player to do so under the tutelage of Head Coach Jay Mahoney.  With the game stopped,  Mr. Caviness was able to pose with a banner commemorating his achievements with his Sister and Brother, Ashanna & DeShawn.
   When the game finished the Bucs would have a 60-36 win. Bogota’s record is now  7-5.  Ashanti Caviness was the high scorer in the game with 17 Points. This moved his total to 1006. Bogota’s Evan Meberg and Leonia’s Alex Coello posted game highs with 3 Three point Baskets. Mr. Coello also lead the Lions with 10 Points.’s  The Men’s team will next play on Thursday-4-March at Ridgefield. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00p.
