On Tuesday-15-September the Bogota Board of Education held their first meeting for the month of September. In his report Superintendent, Mr. Damian Kennedy talked about the beginning of the 2002-21 school year. He acknowledged some problems with the virtual learning, and said many other school districts were reporting the same issues. Most incident were caused by outages from Google and where fixed over a short period of time. Superintendent Kennedy announced that the district have scheduled virtual back to School Nights. They are planned to start on Tuesday-29- September with Bixby School, then Wednesday-30-September with Steen School and ending on 1-October with the High School. Times and more details will follow.
Next he said that the Fall outdoor sports practices have begun with league play to start at the begin of October. There will only be Varsity level sports to be play, with no Middle Schools Sports for the fall season. Superintendent Kennedy is still targeting Monday-19-October as the date which will allow Students to return for in person learning. This will be the original plan that was supposed to start the school year with a combination of in classroom and virtual learning. He did add the district is considering a plan to bring special needs Student back into their classrooms. This will only be in the afternoons so they can again receive hands-on training and education.
There is also planning to allow Parents to have home delivery of the school supplied lunches, which are now only available by pick-up at the High School. The district is working with their supplier to have meals sent to homes on a weekly basis. Finally Superintendent Kennedy said the District working with their Internet Technician, so that the members of the Board can resume in person meeting while still having live online access for the Public.
When the meeting moved to agenda items the Trustees needed to vote on three. Two were personal items, the other was for the Board to give the approval to accept the 2020/2021 CARES Act Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund Digital Divide Grant award and authorize the budget submission of ESSER Digital Divide Grant application for fiscal year 2021. All these agenda item were past, a majority by unanimous vote. All Personal and Finance items are contingent upon and could be modified based on student participation and the district’s receipt of sufficient State School Aide and other revenue funding. Payment shall be made only if the services are provided and performed in full.
The other items on the agenda were move to the consent agenda and will formally be voted on at the next meeting.
