On Friday-11-September Congressman Josh Gottheimer, representing the 5th District in New Jersey, spoke at the Teaneck September 11th remembrance ceremony. This took place behind the Teaneck Municipal building. This was attended by members of the Township Firefighters and a number of veterans. There was a moment to remember the eight residents of Teaneck: Mr. Daniel Bergstein, Mr. Gregory Clark, Ms. Fanny Espinoza, Mr. George Ferguson, Ms. Jennifer Louise Fialko, Ms. Lillian Frederick, Mr. Edward Lichtschein, and Mr. Mark Louis Rosenberg. All lost their lives at the World Trade Center. Residents of other nearby communities include: From Ridgefield Park Mr. William Leonard. From Hackensack Ms. Denise Crant Hatton, Mr Anil Shivhari Umarkar and Ms. Courtney Wainsworth Walcott. All at the World Trade Center. In total 147 residents from Bergen County, and approximately 700 people from New Jersey lost their live that day.
Later that day Congressman Gottheimer, along with Congressman Bill Parcrell, representing the 9th District in New Jersey, awarded a $500,000 federal grant to improve security measures to the Teaneck School District. In thanking the Congressmen for obtain this funding, Teaneck School Superintendent, Dr. Christopher Irving said " Creating a safe learning environment for our students and staff is a top priority in our school district. This grant will enable us to improve the overall safety, security and health of our schools by upgrading and installing 21st century equipment."
