On Monday-3-August the Bogota Public Library will re-opened to allow members of the public to enter the building. First closed along on 14-March-2020, with the all public building, due to the quarantine declared by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. In the reaction to this situation the library offered a number of virtual programs while closed. By mid-June the Library accepted items that needed to be return, but only if placed in the book return slot. Library staff was able to return to work, only on a limited basis. A week later materials could be picked-up, this needed to be done at receiving tables place in from of the Building.
During this time span planning and remodeling of the Library's front lobby was about to take place. This project was paid for with funds from the General Purpose Bond passed by Bogota Council. Work on the lobby included a now fully handicapped accessible restroom, which will also have a diaper changing station inside. A new Floor and lighting system were installed, along with a fresher paint treatment. Several new bookcases will be added for those item which can be purchased from the Library.
The main part of the Library has also been fitted with safety equipment for its reopening. Clear shields are set-up around the Circulation Desk on three sides. There are also clear partitions between each computer terminal. Marking on the ground will direct the flow of traffic, and an appropriate distancing space. Hand sanitizers are conveniently located around the building.

The Library will in-act the following policies for its reopening:
- New health and safety policies for patrons are instituted and include mandatory face masks and physical distancing.
- We are open on a limited basis to the public for material lending. Patrons may not remain in the library for more than 30 minutes, and only 8 patrons may enter to check out materials at one time.
- Outside pickup services continue and are recommended.
- Computer use and passport application services are by appointment only. Call 201-488-7185 to book a reservation.
- Operating hours will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10:00a to 8:00. Wednesday and Friday from 10:00a to 5:00p. Saturday from 10:00a to 3:00p. Closed on Sunday.
- On Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00a to 12:00 noon the library is open only to those over 60, those with underlying health concerns, and those with special needs. For the current list of operating hours for all please visit their website at: https://bogotapubliclibrary.org/.
- Anyone younger than 16 years old must be accompanied with Adult supervision.
- The library continues virtual programs.
