The Big Read

30-July-2020
On Thursday-30-July the Bogota Public Library (BPL), in partnership with Little Ferry and Ridgefield Park Public Libraries, announced that are the recipients of a grant of $5,681 from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This will enabled all three Libraries to host National Endowment for the Arts Big Read for this year. Activities will start on Sunday-20-September and run for four weeks.  The focus of this year will be  Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. An Arts Endowment initiative in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA's Big Read to  broadens the understanding of the world,  communities, and ones-selves through the joy of sharing a good book.
Bogota Library Director  Chelsea Dodd Coleman said that“It’s important to celebrate literature and use it as a means to facilitate community discussion,” she added. “It’s especially relevant this year as people find themselves more isolated and disconnected from their neighbors during the pandemic.”
Book discussions will be hosted in all three communities, along with virtual programs, including a talk about the writing of the classic book, a virtual tour of the Center for Ray Bradbury Studies at Indiana University, and a lecture on censorship. The public is also encouraged to host private discussions with family and friends using guides provided on the website.
A number of copies of Fahrenheit 451  will be available in English and in Spanish from all the Libraries.  In addition, complementary picture books in both languages will be used to involve younger community members. This will include The King Who Banned the Dark by Emily Haworth-Booth.  Also the book  ¿Jugamos? by Ilan Brenman will be celebrated in library story-times and crafts.
