On Saturday-6-June the residents of Bogota were given a chance to have their Cats, or Dogs get their yearly shots for rabies. Normally this would take place in early April, but the current health situation it was moved to June. It was still held at the W. Broad St. Firehouse, but under new safety guidelines. The Bogota Office of Emergency Management set-up a tent so that the check-in process could be held out of doors. A shield was installed to protect both the staff and the pet owners from the spread of any viruses. When there was a number of Pets, and there owners, waiting to register they waited patiently along W.Board St. for their turn. The pets, mostly Dogs, did take advantage of the more open space to explored the other canines near by.
The vaccinations were administered under the supervision of Veterinarian Dr. Jay Buchholz of the Maywood Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Buchholz had his table placed just at the entrance to the Fire House. This kept the inside clear and the animals and Humans in fresher air. The shots were administered free of charge for residents of the Borough who had paid for a license. Pet owners either paid this day, or could have paid in advance with proof of purchase at the time of vaccination. The majority of the pets were dogs, with a few cats also being vaccinated. Dr. Buchholz also gave some simple advice to some of the pet owners who asked question of the best way to treat minor issues with their pets.
