Bogota Borough Council

  On Thursday-7- May the Bogota Borough Council held their first meeting for the month of May.  At the start of the meeting Bogota Mayor Chris Kelemen remembered those from the Borough that have been victimized by the covid-19 outbreak. 
  The first order of  business was to hear from Mr. Steve Welsh, from Bruno Associates,  who presented a few updates in the Grant opportunities the Borough is applying for.  Mr. Welsh mentioned that a number of grants have been submitted, but have yet to be awarded.  He also talked about other grants he is working on, and asked if the Council would like to have his company pursue others that are available. There was one grant award to Bogota, which allows for information of the 2020 Census to be distributed to the residents of Bogota. The deadline to file the 2020 Census has been extended to Saturday-31-October-2020. For more information please go to: https://my2020census.gov/.
  Another point of discussion was to renew the lease on the Bogota Swim Club. What was decided was to offer the Swim Club a one year lease at their current rate. The also will include a clause the payment be pro-rate from the day the Swim Clubs open their 2020 season. There was been on announcement if the State of New Jersey will allow public pools to open this year. The renewal was needed at this time in order to allow the Swim Club arrange insurance when they do open. The was passed by an unanimous vote.   
  All items on the consent agenda were also passed by a unanimous vote. One item of note was to extend the grace period for paying of property taxes to Tuesday-26-May-2020. Also voted on was to allow the presentation of the 2020 Municipal Budget to the Public. This will be open to Public comment at the next Council meeting scheduled for Thursday-21-May. The Budget will be advertised one week before on Thursday-14-May.
  In the report section Mayor Kelemen announced that Bogota will be inline to have a mobile covid-19 test in Bogota. Due to the population of the Borough, Bogota will be one of the last Municipalities to be service by the this. He also talked about that all Memorial Day event in New Jersey have been canceled for this year. Mayor Kelemen did ask for Bogota resident to still decorate their homes and Business with flag and in Red, White, and blue colours. In the report by Borough Administrator Mr. Joe Scarpa he announced equipment for recording and archiving Government meeting has been order and will be installed shortly. Mr. Scarp also said that some cost saving measure  that has been implemented, one of these is to have members of the Bogota Department of Public Works to perform cleaning duties for the interior of Government Buildings.
  One final item was to award a contract to perform a soil examination to the ground around the current Recreation Center. This is to find out if this location can support a larger structure, in a more cost effective way.  This was passed by a 4-2 vote
