On Monday-2-March the #1 seed Bogota Basketball Bucs hosted the #16 Wallington Panthers in the first round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Men’s Basketball North 1, Group 1 Tournament. This was played on the Jay Mahoney Court at Speary Gym. Withing 3 seconds from the start Bogota's first basket of the game was waved off due to a charging foul. The Panthers would take advantage of this and took an early lead. They would build this to a three point space before the 3:00 minute mark. The Bucs answered back by going on a 12 -2 run and pull ahead by the score of 20-11 after the first eight minutes. In the next quarter Wallington would put together their own run and trail by a single point. The next three minutes saw a flurry of scoring and lead changes. As the first half came to an end Bogota had another lead at 30-25. When the game restarted for the second half the Panthers would again draw closer. The Bucs would get a trio of Three Point Baskets from Ashanti Caviness, Taj Collins and Evan Meberg to take the lead for the rest of the game. Mr. Collins, and Mr. Caviness kept the scoring pressure on, in the final quater, to give Bogota a 66-49 win.
Taj Collins would lead all scorers in Points with 30 and Three Point Baskets with 3. Wallington's Zaher Mitchell had a team high with 14 Points. and Joseph Tabaca also accounted for 3 Three Point Baskets.
#1 Bogota next plays #8 Boonton in the Quarterfinal round. This will be played on the Jay Mahoney Court at Speary Gym on Wednesday-4-March. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:00p.
