On Tuesday-10-March the Bogota Board of Education held its first meeting for the month of February.
In his Superintendent report Mr. Damien Kennedy talked about the school district preparations in case of medical need. This Thursday-12-March will now be a half day for the Students. This is to allow the Facility and staff time to work on lesson plans to allow Student to continue to do school work from home. This will be a packet of lesson to send home with the Elementary school Students. And online class work for those with a home internet contention. Mr. Kennedy said that the district is in daily ( or hourly) contact with the New Jersey Dept. of Health (NJDH), and other neighboring School districts for the latest update and to share information. The Bogota Public School will use the (NJDH) guidelines in the need to closed the schools. He said that currently the district has 10 schools day available to use with out changing the last day of school on 22-June. Also Bogota runs on a 182 day calendar. New Jersey requires only 180 days of school days to have an official year. The available days come from unused snow days and Spring break.
Then Mr Kennedy said that the custodial staff is performing longer cleaning in all the classrooms at the end of the day. They also to a “Deep Cleaning” on the weekends. All the products they use are recommended by State and Federal agencies to be have the best cleaning results. The District is purchasing “NASA” design air filtering units that will be installed in each Nurses office. They are also looking to obtain larger mobile airs filtering units to be used in the larger space such as the Auditorium, Gym’s and Cafeteria at the end of the day or event. Mr Kennedy added that the Nurses, in each school is fully supplied with the proper medical equipment.

The next order of business was to open the meeting was for the Trustees to select a candidate to fill the open seat on the Board. The trustees could vote for one of four candidates, The four candidates were Mr. Charlie Severino, Kristen Meberg, Mr. Jim Moore, and Mr. David Macfarline. Before Business Administrator/Board Secretary Mr. Irfan Evcil would begin the vote one Trustee questioned if the each candidates needed to be formally nominated. The Board Attorney said the process was within policy and the vote should be called. When the current trustees were polled the results were Mr. Moore had 5 votes, Mr. Severino had 2 . with the other two candidates not receiving any votes. Mr. Moore will now serve as the ninth trustee until 31- December -2020.
The Board also recognized Aisling O’Hagan as the Student Congress Representative to the Board. Ms. O’Hagan what plans are being made for the SAT testing, which will occur on Saturday 14-March and Teaneck High School. Mr Kennedy answered that, as of now those test are going on as planned.
Next the Board considered the items on the consent agenda. These and all other agenda items will be formally approved at the next Board of Education meeting. One question was about the upcoming budget and is funding for temporary classrooms a part of that budget. The extra classrooms are not as yet apart of the new budget, but will be added when prices and details are finalized.
The Next Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday-10-March. The meeting will be held in the High School Cafeteria located on the second floor of 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ. The meeting is scheduled to start at 7:00p. The Public is invited to attend.
