On Sunday-1-March the Bogota Public Library dedicated its adult reading space as the Elizabeth Wiemer Reading Room. Work on redecoration this space began earlier in the year. The Library wanted to thank Ms. Wiemer for her work and contributions as a member of the Library’s Board of Trustees. An unfortunate a turn in her health and sudden passing away of Ms. Wiemer caused this event to become a heartwarming remembrance of the Woman who served on the Bogota Library Board for 11 years. Library Board President Mary Komoworski welcomed the Family and Friends gather to share this day together. Ms. Komoworski told a few story about her friend, including a nickname given to Ms. Wiemer by her son. Another memory came when Ms. Komoworski presented Ms. Wiemer youngest daughter, Christine, with a children’s book from a birthday party in the early 70’s. It was inscribed with the Chrissy’s name and date when Ms. Komoworski son received it as a party favor. This book was now passed back to the Wiemer Family to continue the legacy of reading this new reading room represents.
Then, oldest daughter, Katie stood up to talk about her Mother. One of the main thing she said about the her Mother, was she could always be seen carrying a book. This led to Katie's own interest in reading and learning. Next Councilwoman Mary-Ellen Murphy present a proclamation from the Bogota Mayor Chris Kelemen and Borough Council. This acknowledge Elizabeth Wiemer work with the Library and for the residents of Bogota. Councilwoman Murphy handed both Daughters a copy of the proclamation and a third to Library Director Chelsea Coleman, so it could be displayed in the reading room.
The event then moved to the room entrance where Ms. Coleman unveiled and added a Plaque signifying the Elizabeth Wiemer Reading Room. The plaque also had the years Ms Wiemer served on the Library Board. After this Daughter Katie and Christine cut the ribbon officially opening this new space to the public. One of the first comment made that they could see Betty taking her lunch hour in one of the chair reading her next favorite book.
After the official part of the ceremony was over the attendees talked about what this would mean to Betty and what she meant to Bogota. The Bogota Library will continue to accept donation in the name of Betty Wiemer for the maintenance and improvements of the Elizabeth Wiemer Reading Room.
