On Wednesday-1-January the Bogota Borough Council held their annual Sine Die, and Reorganization meeting to start the New Year. The Sine Die is the last official meeting of the Borough Council from 2019. This allows for any unfinished business from the previous year. Before public comment session Michelle Rupar, substituting for New Jersey State Senator Loretta Weinberg, and New Jersey State Assembly Members Valerie Huttle and Gordon Johnson presented Council Members Kathy Ferris and David MacFarlane with Proclamations thanking them and recognizing their public service to the Borough of Bogota. After this meeting was adjourned the Reorganization meeting was called into session. Mayor Chris Kelemen was sworn in to his second four term by Andrew Fede. In his address to the audience Mayor Kelemen talked about his goals for this year. The major points he made was to oversee the construction of a new Community Centre. Building a new Firehouse for Hose Co. #2 and Engine Co. #3. Also working with the Bogota Board of Education on new multi purpose sports field, which may include using land that is now part of Olsen Park. Then Daniele Fede, and Michael Connors were sworn into office by Mayor Kelemen. For both Councilwoman Fede, and Councilman Connors this will be their second time serving on Bogota Council.
Then Councilman Thomas Napolitano was elected to become Council President by a 4-3 margin, with Mayor Kelemen needing to cast the deciding vote. Later on Councilman Napolitano would be appointed to serve as Police Commissioner. All items voted on, on the consent agenda were approved. Mayor Kelemen would also swear in the Officers of the Bogota Auxiliary Police Department and the Officers of the Bogota Rescue Squad. This was followed by Mayor Kelemen announcing appointments to a number of local government boards and committees.
The next Bogota Borough Council will be held on Thursday-16-January. This is scheduled to start at 7:30p, and be held in the Council Chambers located at 375 Larch Ave. This meeting is open to the Public.
