On Thursday-12-December the Bogota High School Music Department presented their Winter Concert for 2019. To welcome the audience to the High School, members of the Flute Ensemble played some Christmas Carols in the lobby of the High School.
The program started with the Concert Band under the Direction of Mr. Barry McCann played five selections. These ranged from Classical Christmas songs and a Blues style tune for Santa, to “ You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” from the animated T.V. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”
Before the final number the Senior band members presented Mr. McCann with some presents to thank him his teaching, guidance, and friendship as their music teacher. Mr. McCann was also given a gingerbread house by the Student Interns for this year.
After the intermission the Concert Choir took the stage. They were under the Direction of Ms. Andrea Lynch and accompanied on the keyboard by Ms. Arianna Dellosa. They began with two traditional Holiday songs: “Rise Up, Shepherd and Follow” and “Al Shlosha D’Varim” meaning The world is sustained by three things: by truth, by justice, and by peace. This featured soloist Ian Engelhardt, Isabella Guzman, and Rodrigo Leal. Before the Purple Notes sang their version of “Silent Night” two Senior members of the Choir presented Ms. Lynch a few gift to thank her for her work as there voice teacher.
The finale of the Choir section was a combined performance of the High School Choir as they were joined by the Honour Choir from Bixby and Steen Schools to sing “Christmastime”
After a brief set change the High School Jazz gave their performance. They started with “A Rockin Merry Christmas”, which was followed by “Mary, Did You Know”. This featured a Saxophone solo by Edward Pena. The third tune was “Silver Bells” with vocals by Elisa Luque. The concert came to a climax with a free-form version of “Jazzin’ Merry Gentlemen” this had many of the a number of different solo performance by the Senior Band members.
