On Saturday-7-December the Bogota public Library held a Colouring Workshop with a winter theme. This was presented by Arts Kids Academy, and offered a new take on a snowman. Mr. “D”, from Arts Kids Academy, had some sample of work done by Andy Warhol, one of the leading Artist in the Pop-Art movement in the 1960’s to use as inspiration. Mr. “D” selection was to use Mr. Warhol painting of Marilyn Monroe in four corners. The drawing the Students were to created would be with one Snowman in the centre of the paper surrounded by four corners of bright colours. The Student were shown how to make the basic shape used a series of different size paper circles to start with. Next Mr. “D” showed the Students some suggestions on different type of characteristics that could be used. A few Students would use his idea of a Snow-Princess, Snow-Solder, or just a traditional Snow- Man, or Woman. Other artist thought up designs from their own imagination. These would range from making a Snow- Chef , or angry Snow-Man, or a Snow-man with a friend.
The design was then given other features, eyes, nose, head-gear, arms and props. These were then coloured in how every the artist pleased. Mr. “D” then had the Student draw circles in the empty space of the four corners, to look like floating snowballs. Went all of the colouring was done on the snow creation, and enough snow balls added, they group moved to the final step. This was to pick-out four brilliant colours to be used to filling the left over space. Mr. “D” instructed the Students to not colour in the snowball, or the Snow man itself so it would stay white as the snow in Winter.
Then the young Artists were able to show off their creation to the Parents who came to watch, and compare ideas with other in the group.
