6-September-2019
At the start of September the Bogota Public Library began a fine forgiveness program for juvenile card holders. Students with Library Card from the Bogota Library between the ages of 5-18 are eligible for this program. Card holders from other Libraries, that are part of Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) will not be eligible for this program. The program will run until 31-August-2020, and will be review at that time. The goal of this program is to encourage young readers to take full advantage of the library's resources. It is hope that, given any extra time needed, Students will finish the book they have started without a hard completion date. This will also allow material to be returned in a timely manner, and be fully used. This forgiveness will only be eligible for Bogota Library books and Audio Books. Other items such as DVDs, video games are not included in the forgiveness program. Cost to replace any damaged or lost items will also not be eligible for forgiveness. For more details about the program, in both Spanish and English, please visit the following link. https://bogotapubliclibrary.org/youthfineforgiveness/

From September 1, 2019, through August 31, 2020, late fines for books and audiobooks on youth accounts will be waived. It will help make borrowing more equitable for those kids and teens without reliable transportation to return items or the tech to renew items virtually. It will also level the playing field for households without disposable income. Removing this monetary barrier encourages continued use among the youth in our community and helps lessen the literacy gap.
