The Bogota Board of Education held their meeting for August. At the start of the meeting Superintendent Damian Kennedy gave some updates in his comments. The predominate ones were about school security. One was that all three schools will have a SLEO Class 3 officers on duty at the start of the school year. These Officers will be sworn in at the next Bogota Borough Council meeting to be held on Thursday-5-September. The Board of Education will also be looking to hire one additional SLEO Class 3 officers to be used as needed. Also Mr. Kennedy informed the Board that the one touch lock down buttons have been installed in all district buildings. These buttons will also have a dedicated to monitor the engaging of that button. In additions each school has had new cameras installed to provided better video coverage.
Another point Mr. Kennedy made was that the 2019-20 school year will start a day earlier on Wednesday-4-September at the normal time. The first three days will be half day session. One reason for this is in order to allow the Student to leave early in case of hotter temperatures.
The agenda items of note that were voted on were the approval of a number of special events and field trips that will occur through the school year. Other items of note that were passed was to accept the resignation of Library Specialist Ms. Sabina Albirt, and Vice Principal Mr Michael Buesser. A new Vice Principal Mr. Erick Alfonso was hire for the 2019-20 school year. This was approved by a 5-3 vote, with one trustee being absent.
Also approved was contact to Bogart Memorial School and Trinity Lutheran School to continue the use of their classroom for the School Districts pre-school classes.
This was the first Board of Education meeting to be film in the High School Cafeteria. The Previous from 18-June-2019 was the initial board meeting to be recorded. The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday-10-September at 7:00p. This will be held in the Bogota High School Cafeteria located on the second floor of 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota , NJ. This meeting is open to the public.
