For the Month of July the Bogota Recreation Department had their Summer Basketball Camp. This was held held on the Patty Ciccone Court in the David Moore Gym at Steen School. This was opened to Student from First grade to the Varsity High School level. The Students were taught the finer points of the game by Bogota varsity Basketball Coach Jay Mahoney and Brianne Mahoney. The early session was for Students up to sixth grade. Ms Mahoney guided Students from 1st to 3rd on the basics of the game. That included proper dribbling techniques, passing and shooting. Once these were learn Ms. Mahoney would have small challenges that would the skills they have been working on earlier.
The older Students would be taught by Coach Mahoney on improving skills, and how to play as part of the team. Better passing, looking to find the best situation to complete a play, or how to come to the aid of a teammate when needed. Both group would spend the first part of the session learning and practicing their skills. The rest of the time was to show what they have learn in game situations.
The second session was devoted to the Varsity and Middle School Player to spend more time learning from Coach Mahoney.
