On Saturday-15-June the Ridgefield Park Arts Association presented their first Summer Arts Festival. This took place on Grove St. at its intersection with Main St. in Ridgefield Park. The festival was a combination of visual and performing artist by resident from the Village. Along the sidewalks different artist media were on display. From sculpture to paintings, the artist set up their works for public viewing. Some of the artist skills were able to be seen as one painter was creating a portrait the evening progresses. Another, George Cooke, allowed his carving techniques to be followed as he worked on a small blank of wood. Mr. Cook is in the process of carving the work called "Aeon" by Sun Ho Choi to be installed at the McGowan Community Garden. Another work called "Puzzle People" by Students Carolyn, Geninah, and Marie served as the backdrop for the musical performances.
Over dozen acts were featured throughout the evening. These were a mix of Students, Community groups, along with instrumental groups, soloist and duets. The styles of musical ranged from Jazz by the Federico Perez-Transante band with Larry Umana current and popular tunes by Sarah Zhukovin, Joe Lustica and Joe Kenney. Other groups included musicians from the Ridgefield Park Presbyterian Church and a choir from St. Francis Church lead by Natasha Gonzalez. Dancing performances by the Spotlight Performing Arts Academy and Briana Portorreal were also featured. Mostly all of the groups and performances are either from, or based in Ridgefield Park.
The event was hosted by John Malool, with Ridgefield Park Mayor George Fosdick , Village Commissioner John Anlian and Arts Association Chairperson Giselle Holloway welcoming all of those in attendance. They also thank the supposers of the evening event including local businesses and restaurants. The eating establishment nearby offered take out specials that could be enjoyed at the table set up on Grove St.
It was announced, during the event, that there will be a exhibition of local artist on display at the Municipal Building begin on Thursday-20-June. They are still taking submission by local artist to be considered for inclusion. Items of any medium are welcomed to be submitted. They will be on display on the third floor located at 234 Main St. Ridgefield Park, NJ.
