On Sunday-9-June the ARC of Bergen and Passaic Counties held their annual walk-a-thon in Olsen Park in Bogota NJ. This year marked the 72 the anniversary of the ARC assisting those suffering Mental or Physical handicap, and their Families, maintain a positive quality of life. Before the walk began Kathy Walsh welcome everyone in attendance, both walkers , and their supports. Some of the groups attending in support of the ARC were the Masons from District 2, 3, & 4 of New Jersey who served food to the walkers. Aetrex corporation which a prize wheel available, and their own team of walkers, The Bogota Auxiliary Police Dept and The Bogota Rescue volunteered their time to assist the participants in crossing W. Main St & any medical situations that made had happened. One of the more highlighted groups walking were the Students from Leonia Middle School.
Before the walk Matt Serednicky came up and once again sang the National Anthem. Then walk began with Grand Marshal Connor Carson, with his family, cut the ribbon to start the procession. He was followed by the Bogota High School Marching Buccaneer Band leading the walking on the first of their three laps, or 4.5 miles, around the park.The route covered a one and a half miles around the park. It started at the bandstand crossed over the Environmental Walkway and around Lady Bucs Softball field. This year the walkers could view the Bogota 125th fence weaving installation. Then the path crossed W. Main St to loop around the Little League fields, then back across W. Main St. passing the Picnic Grove returning to the start line.
After the walkers finished their journey they were treated to a Hot Dog lunch, and music from Diamond Jim and the Gems.It was a morning of music and games for the participants. While after the walk crafts were available to be made and some walkers had face painted.
