It was announced today that former Bogota Mayor Alex F. Kelemen passed away at the age of 85. Born on 6-November -1933 Mr. Kelemen died on June 26, 2019. A Marine Veteran of the Korean War. He worked as an Elevator Mechanic with Local #1, Long Island, NY. In 1984 Mr. Kelemen opened Reggo & Kelemen Real Estates, which stills services Bogota and the much of Bergen County. he was elected to Bogota Borough Council in 1980 and served on term. He would them be elected Mayor of Bogota in 1984 and serve one full term. Mr. Kelemen would be the first former Bogota Mayor to have his son Christopher Kelemen also become Mayor of Bogota.
Mr. Kelemen was married to late Florence L. Kelemen. Father of Kerry Roche and husband Kevin and Mayor Christopher M. Kelemen and wife Dianne. Brother of the late Margaret Creange, Joseph and John. He was predeceased by his grandson Brian Roche and is survived by his grandchildren Amannda, Kerin, Nicolle, Shannon(Daniel Brown & Mallory), Alexander,II, ChrisAnne, Rebecca(fiancé Gordon Kohles) and Caitlin; and great grandfather of Lacey Lillianne Kohles.
Mr. Kelemen, served on many local and school organizations. He was president of Bogota Buc Boosters from 1974-1982 and coached Rec football & baseball He also was a co-founder of Bogota Recreation Project Success, and the Bogota Ski Club Mr. Kelemen was apart of the N. East Bergen County Mayor's Association and the N. East Civic Association. Other organization Mr. Kelemen was involved in were the Bogota Recreation Commission and Planning Board and was an active member of the Bogota Republican Club. He played drums with St. Vincent's Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, Bayonne. Beloved husband of the late Florence L. Kelemen.
Funeral service at Petrik Funeral Home, 140 Palisade Avenue, Bogota, Monday morning 1-July at 9:30. Visiting hours will be on Sunday-30-June from 2:00p-4:00p and 7:00p-9:00p. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
