Starting on Sunday-1 July-2018 the Borough of Bogota will change the ordnance in what can be recycled. Bottle & cans recycling pick-up the Borough of Bogota will now be limited to: Aluminium, Glass, Bi-metal/Tin cans. Aluminium foils and pie plates will be accepted but must be clean. Plastic Containers with the symbol 1, 2, or 5 only will also be accepted. All recyclable material must be placed in reusable trash receptacles. Items places in plastic bag will not be collected. Paper and cardboard recycling remains unchanged.
The collectible the products that have been removed from the accepted list will now be accepted by The Borough of Bogota in cooperation with the Ridgefield Park environmental commission and collected in a separate way. The Trex Corporation has provided bins to accept the following item. Grocery bags, bread bags, case overwrapping, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, wood pellet bags, zip lock & other re-seal able bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, salt bags, and cereal bags. All recyclable materials must be clean, dry and free of food residue. For every 500 pounds of plastic collected the Trex Corporation will donate a new park bench, made from recycled materials. The benches will be donated to both Bogota and Ridgfield Park on a rotating basis. As of now a Trex collection bin is in the lobby of the Bogota Borough Hall and the Bogota Public Library can be accessed during regular business hours. More bins are planned for other locations in the future.
The collection day under the new rules will be Thursday-5-July (due to the Fourth of July Holiday) Then every other Wednesday.

The Bogota Emergency Service Youth Academy will be handing out applications for Class 08. Student who will be entering grades 7,8,and 9th for the school year starting in September 2019 are eligible to apply. Applications will be available starting at 7:00a at the Bogota Police Headquarters ( or at the W.Broad St. firehouse).
Over the past several years the line to pick up application has starting forming one to two hours before the starting time. It is recommended that the Student themselves pick-up the application, this helps show the Academy officials that the Student is serious about being apart of the Youth Academy. After that date application may be pick-up at Police Headquarters. Applications must be returned to Police Headquarters no later the Saturday 11-May at 7:00p

Bogota Beautiful will hold their Earth Day event on Saturday-4-May. The event is schedule to start at 11:00a and run to 3:00p. For this year’s event Bogota Beautiful is partnering with the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation ( NNJCF) and its ArtsBergen group to create a fence weaving installation along the Little League field in Olsen Park. This is also in celebration of Bogota’s 125th Anniversary. Other projects that will be worked on that day includes: The W. Main St clean-up and spring planting. The cleaning and maintenance on the Bogota World War I and Community Garden along River Rd. and a power washing of the Environmental Walkway along the banks of the Hackensack River in Olsen Park.
Other events schedule to happen that day is a workshop from the group Bees, Trees, and Water which bringing awareness to the important providing a healthy environment in local communities. Danielle Fede from The Bogota Green Team, along with the Bogota Environmental Commission will be giving away tree saplings. These trees are made possible by the NJ tree Recovery Campaign to help restore trees that have been damaged, or fallen from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. They will be given away on a first come, first serve basis.
Bogota Beautiful is still accepting sign-ups for anyone wishing to be a Volunteer on this day. The number of Volunteers that sign up will help them plan on how many areas will be work on that day. They are also accepting donations of any equipment to help with the clean up. Gloves, hats, racks, shoves, broom, or any other type of lawn equipment will be accepted. They are also looking for anyone who has their own power equipment to volunteer their services on that day. Anyone with tillers, leaf blowers, power washers and cordless mowers would be welcome. Bogota Beautiful is also interested in any business who would be able donate refreshment for the Volunteers. Water, snack, fruit, and Sandwiches are the primary need to get the Volunteers going on a late spring afternoon. High School and College Student will be awarded community service credit for volunteering for this event. The Healthy Kids Running Series will hold their next series of sessions for the Spring. This will be the first of the five day events in the Healthy Kids Running Series for the Spring of 2019 in Bogota. Healthy Kids Running Series a nonprofit organization that gets boys and girls Pre-K through Middle School active, feel accomplished and lays the foundation for a healthy lifestyle, compete in their first race of the five-consecutive-week Series. This will take place at Fiegel Field starting at 4:30p. It will run for 5 straight weeks ending on Sunday 5-May. Price for one session is $10.00 For the entire series is $35.00 Runners can chose to race in as many as they would like.

This will feature a Buffet dinner including refreshments. Staff and officials from the Bogota Police Emergency Service Youth Academy will be on hand to talk to Graduate Cadets, and will be available to answer any question Student , or Parents may have about class 08. The first 10 applicants to be accepted for Class 08 will be announced. The Bogota Public Library will have their Youth's Sewing Club meeting. This is open to Students ages 9-18. This will teach anyone the art of sewing. There will be a chance to learn machine, and hand sewing as well as shown different project and types of material. This will be from 1:00p to 4:00p in the back reading room.This is a free event, but anyone attending is asked to register with the library in advance. The next meeting of the Bogota Test Kitchen will be held in the second floor of the Bogota Library. At this meeting members are to bring a recipe from this month book, and serve it to the other members as a potluck dinner. While over dinner members can discuss the book, why the chose their dish, and what was it like in the cooking process. This is a free event and open to anyone over the age of 18 years old. This is Memorial Day weekend several closing have been announced.
- The Bogota Public Library will be closed on Saturday- 25-May -Monday- 27-May. They will reopen on Tuesday 29-May with regular Business hours.
- The Schools of the Bogota Public School system will be closed on Friday-25-May & Monday- 27-May. Regular session will resume on Tuesday 29-May.
- St. Joseph's School will be closed on Friday-25-May & Monday- 27-May.. Regular session will resume on Tuesday 29-May.
- Trinity Lutheran School will be closed starting early on Friday-25-May & Monday- 27-May. Regular session will resume on Tuesday-29-May.
- Bogart School will be closed on Monday -27-May,
- There will be no lawn waste collection on Monday- 27-May

The Bogota VFW Ralph Hall post #5561, and the Bogota American Legion Clifford Dunn Post #117 has announced the schedule for their Memorial Day celebrations for 2016. This year Memorial Day will be on Monday -27-May. The Bogota VFW, American Legion and the Borough of Bogota will hold their Memorial Day Service starting at 11:00a. This will take place in front of Borough Hall located at 375 Larch Ave Bogota, NJ. This event is free and opened to the Public. The Bogota Memorial Day Parade will start at Palisades Ave & Cedar St in Bogota. This will kick off at 2:00p The Parade will travel North on Palisade to E. Main St. It will turn left onto E. Main St and cross over the 1st Lt. Albert Graf Bridge to Elm Ave. It will make a right turn onto Elm ave and travel north to W. Grove St. It will turn Left onto W. Grove to Larch Ave. It will turn Left onto Larch Ave and travel South to Bogota Borough Hall and will end after passing by the reviewing stand.
In preparation for this Memorial Day the Bogota Dept. of Public Works has placed new American flags on the streetlight poles from E. Ft. Lee rd at Palisades Ave along the parade route to W. Main St and Larch Ave. There are also new flags hanging in front of Bogota Borough Hall on Larch Ave.
During the parade the Bogota Girl Scouts will be collecting food items for the St. Joseph's Food bank. Items such as canned goods, cereals, pasta, boxes of potatoes, rice & stuffing can be placed in the wagons that the Girls Scouts will be pulling as they march in the parade.
Also on that same Monday the Volunteer members of the Bogota Emergency Services Dept. will have their annual inspection. The members, with their equipment, of The Bogota Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad, will line in front of Borough Hall starting at 9:00a. They will then fall in to be reviewed by the Elected officials of Bogota Government. This will included Mayor Chris Kelemen and members of the Borough Council.
After the inspection the Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept. will hold their remembrance ceremony starting at 10:00a at the memorial service in Borough Hall Park.
All these events are open to the public to view. The Bogota VFW will then host an indoor picnic of Hot-dogs and soda in the lower hall Ralph Hall, after the Parade. The post is located at 241 West. Shore Ave. Bogota, NJ
