On Monday and Tuesday-21 & 22-May the students from the Bixby and Steen Schools spent the morning in Olsen Park on their annual Field Day trip. They took advantage of the two days of dry, sunshine, to play games and exercise out of door. Another benefit of this day was to allow the Student from both schools to got to know their counterparts from across town. Monday was the day for the Student from Kindergarten to Third grade to go to the park. They mainly stayed on the Western Side of the park in Lady Buc Field playing games.
On Tuesday it was the turn for grades 4-6 to play in the Eastern Side of the park and on Fiegel Field. The Tuesday session had a number of different sports to take part in. This, being Bogota, there was a large number of Students playing Volleyball. Other sports included two separate football games were being played. One was a touch football game, with the other being flag football. Three version of Kick/Base ball occurred in different areas. One game had the older Students the use a bat to hit a kickball. There was also a Frisbee throwing contest.
Members of the Junior Class of Bogota High School took the time to teach, coach , and even play along side the Younger Students. A few times some of the Teachers joined in to play with the Grade-Schoolers. As the time in the park, ran down, the idea came up to have the older representative from Steen And Bixby challenged the High-Schoolers to a Volleyball. Then the Students walked back to their school for Lunch and a return to class work.
