Bogota Varsity Sports

30--April-2019
  Results from Bogota Varsity Sport that took place on Monday-29-April.
  The Bogota Track and Field squad competed in the  NJIC Patriot Division Championships held at Emerson High School. Top performs for the Lady Bucs were Alondia Batista winning the Discus throw with a distance of 88-02. Gabrielle Cintron placed 4th in the same event. Olivia Burnett finished 6th in the Shot Put.  Gabrielle Grant finished 4th in the 1600 meter run. Angelie Jaipersaud finished 4th in the 3200 meter run. The Lady Bucs finished 7th out of the eight team field
  The Men's squad had Jesus Michel winning both the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:46.91. And the 3200 meter rune with a time of 10:04.08 Andrew Miller placed 3rd in the Javelin throw and 5th in the Shot Put. The Men's squad finished 7th out of the eight team field.
  Both squads next compete in the Bergen County group championships on Friday & Saturday 10&11 May. This will be held at Old Tappan.

  The Lady Bucs Softball team hosted the Lady Warriors from Waldwick at Lady Buc Field in Olsen Park. The teams would be even at 0-0 through the first two innings. Waldwick would score 2 in the top of the third and another in the top of the fourth . Bogota could only manage one run in their half of the fourth inning and trail by a score of 1-3. The Lady Warriors would put the game away with a four Run fifth inning and post a 9-1 road win. Ashley Buschgans, Kacie Centineo, and Missy O'Neil would all hit Home Runs. Ms.Buschgans and Ms.O'Neil would also have a game high with 2 Runs Batted In.  Colleen Bernhard would have 2 Stolen Bases. Casey James would strike out 11 batters in the win.
  Bogota's Natalia Linares would have the lone RBI. Jayleen Arce and Leila Ksiyer had a Stolen Base apiece. Bogota's record is 6-7. They next play on Wednesday-1-May at Palisades Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00p.

  The Men's Baseball Bucs traveled to Waldwick. The Warriors would score 3 runs in the home part of the first inning. Then another two run in the second. This would pace the home team to a 9-4. Joe Brunner, Lucas Mainenti, and Louis Fabbo would each have a Home Run. Mr. Fabbo would have a game high with 4 Runs Batted In. Phil Centineon and Garrett Mironenko would each have 2 Stolen Bases. Tom Hughes would have 6 Strikeouts in the win.
  The Bucs' Danny Sanchez would have 2 Runs Batted In, Jake Marino and Argenis Soriano would each hit Doubles. Michael Zayas-Bazan would record 3 Strikeouts. Bogota's record is 4-8. They next play on Wednesday-1-May against Palisades Park. This will be played at the Feigel Field Baseball Diamond The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00p.

Lady Bucs Softball

29-April-2019
 On Saturday-27-April the Bogota Lady Bucs Softball team play a travel Double Header. Bogota would first travel to Park Ridge to play the St.Dominic Blue Devils from Jersey City, NJ.  This would be a Coaches vs Cancer event. St. Dominic would score one run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. The Lady Bucs would score 5 runs in their half of the third  inning and would not trail the rest of the game Bogota would score two runs and post a 7-4 win.   Ruby Recio would record  Double and Jayleen Arce would have 2 Runs Batted In.
  In the afternoon Bogota would then travel to Weehawken to play in the Autism Awareness Challenge.  Here they would face the Lady Yellow Jackets from Bergen Arts & Sciences Charter School.  Bogota would open the scoring with 11 Runs in the first inning on the way to an 18-0 win. Alyssia Vasquez and Leila Ksiyer would both hit a Home Run. Ms. Vasquez would refinish the game with 4 Runs Batted in, Natalia Linares would hit for a Double.

 Bogota's record is now  6-6. They are next scheduled to play on Monday-29-April against Waldwick. This will be play at Lady Buc Field in Olsen Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00p

Continuing 
  Starting on Sunday-1 July-2018 the Borough of Bogota will change the ordnance in what can be recycled. Bottle & cans recycling pick-up the Borough of Bogota will now be limited to: Aluminium, Glass, Bi-metal/Tin cans. Aluminium foils and pie plates will be accepted but must be clean. Plastic Containers with the symbol  1, 2, or 5  only  will also be accepted.   All recyclable material must be placed in  reusable trash receptacles.  Items places in plastic bag will not be collected. Paper and cardboard recycling remains unchanged.
   The  collectible the products that have been removed from the accepted list will now be accepted by The Borough of Bogota in cooperation with the Ridgefield Park  environmental commission and collected in a separate way. The Trex Corporation has provided bins to accept the following item. Grocery bags, bread bags, case overwrapping, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, wood pellet bags, zip lock & other re-seal able bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, salt bags, and cereal bags. All  recyclable materials must be clean, dry and free of food residue. For every 500 pounds of plastic collected the Trex Corporation will donate a new park bench, made from recycled materials. The benches will be donated to both Bogota and Ridgfield Park on a rotating basis. As of now a Trex collection bin is in the lobby of the Bogota Borough Hall and  the Bogota Public Library can be accessed  during  regular business hours. More bins are planned for other locations in the future.
  The collection day under the new rules will be Thursday-5-July (due to the Fourth of July Holiday) Then every other Wednesday.

 The Healthy Kids Running Series will hold their next series of sessions for the Spring. This will be the first of the five day  events in the Healthy  Kids Running Series  for the Spring of 2019 in Bogota. Healthy Kids Running Series a nonprofit organization that gets boys and girls Pre-K through Middle School active, feel accomplished and lays the foundation for a healthy lifestyle, compete in their first race of the five-consecutive-week Series. This will take place at Fiegel Field starting at 4:30p. It will run for 5 straight weeks ending on Sunday 5-May.  Price for one session is $10.00 For the entire series is $35.00 Runners can chose to race in as many as they would like.

 The Bogota Public  Library will have their Youth's Sewing Club meeting.  This is  open to  Students ages 9-18.  This will teach anyone the art of sewing. There will be a chance to learn machine, and hand sewing as well as shown different project and types of material.   The Bogota  Public Library host a workshop on lawn care.      The weekly " Meet the Mayor"  event will take place in the office of Mayor Chris Keleman This is open to any Bogota resident who would to ask the Mayor a question about  Bogota, or to discuss any matter to help improve the quality of life in the Borough. Anyone who wishes just to have an informal conversation with the Mayor is also welcome to attend. Meetings will be held on a first come basis. This will run from 5:00p to 7:00p in the Mayor's office.   The Bogota VFW Ralph Hall post #5561  will hold its annual Loyalty day event starting at 7:00p. This will take placed in the lower hall located at 291 West Shore Ave in Bogota, NJ. The VFW will announce the winners of this years Patriots Pen and Voice of Democrat essay contest.

   The Bogota  Emergency Service Youth Academy  will be handing out applications for Class 08. Student who will be entering grades 7,8,and 9th  for the school year starting in September 2019 are eligible to apply.  Applications will be available starting at 7:00a at the Bogota Police Headquarters ( or at the W.Broad St. firehouse). 
    Over the past several years the line to pick up application has starting forming one to two hours before the starting time. It is recommended that the Student themselves pick-up the application, this helps show the Academy officials that the Student is serious about being apart of the Youth Academy.  After that date application may be pick-up at Police Headquarters.  Applications must be returned to  Police Headquarters no later the Saturday 11-May at 7:00p

   The Bogota Police Emergency Services Youth Academy has been developing the Students of Bogota, and is recognized one of the finest youth programs in Northern New Jersey.This program  is becoming  an important part in the the education of Bogota Students.

 Bogota Beautiful will hold their Earth Day event on Saturday-4-May.  The event is schedule to start at 11:00a and run to 3:00p.  For this year’s event Bogota Beautiful is partnering with the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation ( NNJCF)  and its ArtsBergen group to create  a fence weaving  installation along the Little League field in Olsen Park.  This is also in celebration of Bogota’s 125th Anniversary. Other projects that will be worked on that day includes: The W. Main St clean-up and spring planting. The cleaning and maintenance on the Bogota World War I and Community Garden along River Rd. and a power washing of the Environmental Walkway  along the banks of the Hackensack River in Olsen Park. 
  Other events schedule to happen that day is a workshop from the group  Bees, Trees, and Water which  bringing awareness to the important  providing  a healthy environment in local communities. Danielle Fede from The Bogota Green Team, along with the Bogota Environmental Commission will be giving away tree saplings. These trees are made possible by the NJ tree Recovery Campaign to help restore trees that have been damaged, or fallen from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. They will be given away on a first come, first serve basis.
    Bogota Beautiful is still accepting sign-ups for anyone wishing to be a Volunteer on this day. The number of Volunteers that sign up will help them plan on how many areas will be work on that day. They are also accepting donations of any equipment to  help with the clean up. Gloves, hats, racks, shoves, broom, or any other type of lawn equipment will be accepted. They are also looking for anyone who has their own power equipment to volunteer  their  services on that day.  Anyone with tillers, leaf blowers,  power washers and cordless mowers would be welcome.  Bogota Beautiful is also interested in any business who would be able donate refreshment for the Volunteers. Water, snack, fruit, and Sandwiches are the primary need to get the Volunteers going on a late spring afternoon. High School and College Student will be awarded community service credit for volunteering for this event.
