On Tuesday-19- March the Bogota Board of Education held their second meeting for the month of March. After the Superintendents comments the Board heard from a representative of the New Jersey School Board Association. He presented video, and talked to the Board about the State of New Jersey dealing with Non-College Bound Learners. The main idea of this discussion is to explain to local school board the need to find programs, and classes to instruct Student in a way which will prepare them to go onto other learning opportunities other than the standard college experience. One idea the State of New Jersey is focusing on is to have school district includes Career and Technical Education Courses (CTE) as part of their curriculum. The goal of study is to expand the what was once called Vocational Education to included 21st Century field of employment such as robotic and artificial intelligent as classes made available to the Student body. The study also talked about working with local business that could help Student to work as interns with their companies.
These ideas were further talked about in the Board New Business section of the meeting. Some ideas brought up was to schedule Job Fair events to bring local companies, and organization into the school to expose the Student to other career opportunities are available. They also are looking to create a master list of job skills, which will not have to acquire college degree to enter. There was also a mention of expanding the internship programs which Senior Students could attend during the afternoon School Day. Another idea was to start including career awareness in all fields to the Elementary school level.
All Agenda items were pass by an unanimous vote. The most notable item was the change in the school calendar. Now Friday-24-May will be a half day School session. This will be the first day of the Memorial Day Holiday Break. The other change made was that on Tuesday-4-June all Bogota Public Schools will be closed in order to allow voting in the New Jersey Primary Elections.
The Next Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday-19-March and will be held in the High School Cafeteria located on the second floor of 2 Henry Luthin Pl Bogota, NJ. The meeting is scheduled to start at 7:00p. The Public is invited to attend.
