On Wednesday-7-November the #2 Bogota Lady Bucs Volleyball team The next play # 6 Kinnelon Lady Colts in a Semi-Final Match of the 2018 NJISSA Group I Women's Volleyball Tournament. This will be played in a Standing room only Speary Gym with both schools have a large contingent of supports.
Kinnelon took and early 3-1 lead in the first game. Bogota was able to tie the game at 4 then went on a long service run by Briana Lozano. The Lady Bucs continued to put pressure on the Lady Colts defense behind an Amy Chavez Service run. Bogota would win the first game 25-12.
The second game would also see Kinnelon take an early lead by the score of 7-5. Bogota would, this time be led by the serving of Nylene Mateo to take the lead for the final time. The Lady Colts would pull within one Point, but serving by Alyssa Vasquez allowed the Lady Bucs to increase their advantage. Bogota would quickly get the score to 21-14, but Kinnelon made one more run at the home team behind two different service runs. Bogota would put themselves into a position that they only need to force a side out, and when that happen the Lady Bucs would win the game 25-21 and the match 2-o. This gave then the Section "B" championship and a date in the Group I finals on Saturday-10-November. This will be played at William Paterson University with the first served scheduled for 12:30p. The will face the #1 Verona Lady Hillbillies. This will be third straight time these two schools have met in the Group I Championship Match. Bogota winning in 2016. And Verona winning last year.
Leilya Ksiyer had a match High with 14 Kills, Amy Chavez had 14 Digs, and Alyssia Vasquez recording 22 Assists.
After the Match, Bogota Superintendent Damien Kennedy thanked the Kinnelon Team and their followers in providing an spirited Semi Final. Then Mr Kennedy presented the Section "B" trophy to the Bogota Captains. Following this Mr Kennedy took the time to recognise Bogota head Coach Brad DiRupo on achieving his 500 career victory on 21-September against West Morris Central. Mr Kennedy continued saying that in the 19 season of Coaching, all at Bogota, the Lady Bucs Volleyball team has won 15 League titles, many without a loss against league opponents. Now 9 Sectional Titles. 7 Group I Championships. And a Bergen County Championship in 2012. Coach DiRupo was then presented with a plaque from the Board of Education honouring him on this achievement and the game ball from his 500th win.
