Heat Advisory

    The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Northern New Jersey & New York areas.  This will be in effects from Wednesday-29-August to  9:00p tonight. Temperatures are forcasted to reach the middle to upper 90's for Wednesday into early morning on Thursday. With high humidity  the heat index excepted to reach the feeling of 104 degrees. 
  Bergen County has opened a number of cooling station at:  
  • County Administration Building — One Bergen County Plaza in Hackensack on the first floor.             
  • Northwest Bergen Senior Activity Center — 46-50 Center St. in Midland Park.
  • Southwest Bergen Senior Activity Center — 147 Hackensack St. in East Rutherford.  
  • Bergenfield Senior Center — 293 Murray Hill Terrace in Bergenfield.
   Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.
  It is advised to reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health 
Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned
environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency in cases of heat stroke please contact the local Police Dept. or 
call 9 1 1.
  It is also asked  monitor any Seniors Citizens or other neighbors who may  suffer from chronic
health problems or mental health conditions who may be at an increased risk. Homes without air
conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures.
