On Thursday-24-May the Township of Teaneck, in cooperation with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) announced the start of their Street Smart campaign. This is a program to alert and remind both drivers, and pedestrians the rules for traveling  on the Townships streets and sidewalks. He hopes this program will help to reduce the number of all types of traffic accidents focusing on an increase in  pedestrians safety. The next to speak was Teaneck Chief of Police Glenn O'Reilly. Chief O'Reilly's said there will be the new signs information that will inform both drivers and pedestrians on how to safely traveling through Teaneck. He continued with saying that his Officer will be interactive with the citizen of the Township in order to explain the rules regarding basic traffic laws. Chief O'Reilly also talked about the laws in place to avoid distracted walking, driving, and even biking on Township streets.  Finally (NJTPA) Executive Director Ms Ameem  explained what the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority can do to improve the  condition and safety of streets and sidewalk in the communities it serves. The Street Smart project is one way to aid local towns and Police Forces to help make the streets and road in New Jersey safer for those that use them.  Another goal of the NJTPA is to develop  plans for transportation improvement and management to fulfill the vision by partnering with citizens, counties, cities, state, and federal entities to develop and promote the transportation plan. The NJTPA will also aid in securing federal funding assistance to make the plan a reality link transportation planning with safety and security, economic growth, environmental protection,  and growth management.  For more information on the Street Smart program please visit their website at: bestreetsmartnj.org
