On Thursday-3-May the Bogota Borough Council held their first meeting for the month of May. The one agenda item was passed on to the consent agenda which will vote on fully at the next meeting. One major item that was brought up for discussion was to ask the Borough Attorney to look into the other types of local governmental available to be used in Bogota. Bogota is currently governed under the borough form of New Jersey municipal government. The governing body consists of a mayor and a borough council comprising six council members, with all positions elected at-large on a partisan basis as part of the November general election. A mayor is elected directly by the voters to a four-year term of office. - Ridgefield Park has a Village form of Government which elects a Board of Commissioners consisting of five members, elected at-large in non-partisan elections to serve four-year terms on a concurrent basis. The commissioners elect one commissioner as mayor, however the mayor is only responsible for his or her departments and serves as the chair of the commission.
- Teaneck has a Township system of government that consist of seven council members, with one member being appointed by council. Teaneck also has non-partisan elections.
- Leonia is a Borough like Bogota consists of a Mayor and a Borough Council comprising six council members, with all positions elected at-large on a partisan basis.
Council members asked the Borough Attorney to create a report of different form of local government that could be applied to Bogota. They also asked the report should include both partisan and non-partisan types of Government so they would have various options to choose from. If the Council chooses to seek a new form of Government for Bogota, it must then be voted on by the registered voters of Bogota in a future election.
Another item announced was that now that the William Ryan Bridge is now open the New York Susquehanna & Western Railway (NYSW) will replace the current crossing at W. Ft. Lee rd. This work is scheduled to begin on Monday-21-May and continue for the rest of the week. W.Ft.Lee rd will be fully closed during work hours from 7:00a to 6:00p.
