On Tuesday-20- March their Bogota Board of Education held its second meeting for the month of March. There was still no decision made on the hiring of a new Superintendent for the Bogota Public Schools district. Some of the more noteworthy agenda items that were passed was the hiring of Brain Appleton ( Bogota High School Class of 2005) as the new head football coach for Varsity Football. He replaces Kevin Bayani who step down earlier this year. Another was to approve the payment for the use of an Officer of the Bogota Police Dept who was use as an guard at the door to the High School during the last week of February. When this item was passed Superintend Dr. Vincent Varcadipane again expressed his opinion that it would be in the best interest for the District to have a full time armed security guard for the school. He also continued to talked about the integration of the security system now being installed in the Bogota Government properties with those currently in the Public Schools. The Board is hoping to have a report from their Technology Supervision and the Bogota police Chief at the next Board meeting.
The most impact-ful announcement came during the Public Comment session . The first to speak the Sgt. Craig Lynch on behave of the Bogota Emergency Services Youth Academy. In a prepared speech he announced the suspension of Bogota Emergency Services Youth Academy, and the calculation of Class 08 for the summer of 2018. Sgt Lynch sited the uncertain of the Academy program with the School District which has caused a delay in the planning of the Academy Class. He went on to thank the School Board for their cooperation over the passed seven years, for the use of their facilities, and being allowed to talk with the Student about the Academy. Sgt Lynch then thanked thew Parents for their work and support over the years. And finally thanked the Students, and Alumni Cadets for being apart of the Bogota Emergency Services Youth Academy.
After Sgt Lynch was finish and number of Parent spoke on behave of Sgt Lynch and the Academy and hoped a plan can be found to continue Bogota Emergency Services Youth Academy in the future.
The next scheduled Board of Education meeting will be Tuesday -10-April. This will be held in the Bogota High School Cafeteria and is open to the public. The Cafeteria is located on the second floor at 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ. The meeting is scheduled to start at 7:00p
