On Tuesday-13-February the Bogota Board of Education held its second meeting for the month. The first item was to elect a new Trustee to replace Jo-Ellen Granquist. There was only one applicant to address the board, and by unanimous vote Jacqueline DeVore was elected as trustee. Ms DeVore was then sworn in by Business Administrator Irfan Evcil. Ms DeVore will serve out the term for the rest of the calendar year.
Then the board hear from representative of IntraLogic security systems. This was a presentation to inform the board of what is available which will allowed the Board of Education to install a security system similar to the one that is being created for the Borough of Bogota and the Bogota Police Dept. Some of the feature discussed was to upgrade the system in all three schools in order so that their cameras can be linked into a main system that will allow the Bogota police to monitor them in case of an emergency situation. Another part of the system would install a single button access to secure any or all schools with a single button, which would also inform the Police dept of a emergency situation. The Board agreed this is something that is necessary to maintain the safety of the Students and Staff while in the schools. They also instructed the School technology supervisor to create a report on what other vendors could supply the same system to work with the Borough's system and which would be most cost effective to the Board of Education and the Police Dept. There is a deadline of the next Board of Education meeting for this report to be available for presentation.
The more notable agenda items that were past was to accept the retirement of the Physical Education teacher at Steen School. The resignation of the Men's Varsity Football Coach and a Teacher's aide at Steen School.
The Board also discussed the process of hire a new full time Superintendent for the Bogota Public School System. A number of resumes have been received and the list of candidates has been narrowed down to 5 or 6. The next step is to hold private meeting with each candidate in order to select 2 or 3 finalist to appeared before the Board at a Public meeting which will then vote on for a new Superintendent of Schools. The date and time of this meeting will be announced at a future date.
The next scheduled Board of Education meeting will be Tuesday -13-March. This will be held in the Bogota High School Cafeteria and is open to the public. The Cafeteria is located on the second floor at 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ. The meeting is scheduled to start at 7:00p
