On Tuesday-25-April the Bogota Board of Education held its regular meeting for April. At the start of the meeting Superintendent Dr. Varcadipane talked further about how the public schools will proceed on New Jersey Primary Election day. This will occur on Tuesday 6-June. The polls will be open from 6:00a to 8:00p . Two of the public schools are to be used as polling stations. These are Bixby, and the High School. In past year Parents have raised concerns about allowing open access to the building while Students are in attendance. This year the Public School will have a half day session with a lunchtime dismissal. The Board will also contract with a private security firm to monitor the public access to and from the polling area.
A major agenda item that was passed was the joint agreement with the Bogota Borough Council to authorize the upgrade and maintenance of the sports fields in Olsen Park. This will primarily affect the space between the two Little League infields on the Eastern side of the park. The plan is to level and re-turf that area in order to provide a home field for the Bogota High School Soccer teams starting in the Fall of 2017. Members of the Board agree with, and fully support, a home field for the soccer teams. They did express concerns about a lack of cost listed in the Council's resolution that will be spent on this project. Another concern was about scheduling the field for games, and practices. There is currently plans for a soccer camp using the current area as that are a part of a Recreation Commission program. Board President Charles Severino, and Board Attorney Richard Brovarone talked about the meeting they had with the Borough Council about this plan, and said that funds and costs had been set, and the High School sports team will have first choice of dates and time to use the field. Previously the Bogota Borough Council have stated that funding for this project will be apart of the Recreation Committee budget, along with additional cost being split between the Borough and the Board of Education.
A couple added agenda items that were past dealt with meeting schedules. There will be an added meeting on Monday 8-May. This will be scheduled to start at 5:30p and will be a discussions of the school budget for next school year. Another added meeting will be on Thursday 11-May. This will have a schedule start time of 7:30p and will allow the Board to recognize the Teachers of the Year from the Bogota Public Schools. Both meeting will be held This will be held in the Bogota High School Cafeteria . These are open to the public. The Cafeteria is located on the second floor at 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ
