On Saturday-4-February the Bogota varsity Cheerleaders hosted their second annual Dance to the Beat event. This took place at the Bogota High School Gym in order to raise money assist the American Heart Association with their research in fighting heart disease. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the American Heart Association in honour of Julio Alvarez. There was a number of local vendors supporting the Cheerleaders by either donating raffle prizes, or sharing some of the sales from their products to the Cheerleaders cause. The main activity of the evening was a Zumba lead by Marissa Tonge, Yudith Cororreal, and Dalia Lozano from Real Rhythm Dance and Fitness. The attendees had an hour of Zumba dancing to show how exercise is one of the top methods staying fit and healthy. There was also a mediation class to teach relaxation methods which will also contribute to heart heath.
This is in support of the American Heart Association To bring awareness and education of heart disease. This is another way the Bogota Varsity Cheerleaders strive to help different foundations and assist in the community. This event is in honour of Cheerleading Head Coach Gabrielle Carpenter's late Uncle Julio Alvarez who had been diagnosed and lost his battle to heart disease.
