On Friday 28-October the newly formed Bogota Youth Club had an open sign-up event at the Bogota VFW. This organization is the idea of Councilman Michael Connors who would like to have a chance to allow Bogota Students a chance to be together. His thoughts is to have a place for Middle and High School aged Students to be welcomed at, and fell relaxed along with spending time in the company of other Students. The Youth Club is currently working with the Bogota Advisory Committee on Substance Abuse (BACSA) and Bogota VFW post 5561 to organize a committee, and have a space available for the first year. The Bogota VFW post 5561 is offering the use of one of the rental spaces for club events. Councilman Connors has contacted BACSA for assistance in securing funding to their own equipment. In its first year the Youth Club will look to purchase gaming tables, and sound equipment for their own use.
The initial year the Youth Club is scheduling meeting every other Friday nights for three to four hours. These first meeting will have Volunteer Parental Supervision, with a goal of have a Youth Club Committee of Junior and Senior Students taking over the operation and organization of the club. Councilman Connors also would like to have a number of Volunteer Parents to also serve on this committee and oversee the meeting, or other events when needed.
The Club's long range goals is to become part of the Bogota Recreation Commission while securing a permanent space. They would also like to have evening devoted to certain topics and inviting guest speakers to talk to the members. Club trips through the year is another item they would like to make a regular event.
The Bogota Youth Club is a free organization open to any Student from ages 13 to There will be other sign-up events and meeting announced in the future. For more information please contact Councilman Michael Connors at 201-606-1645.
